The Olympic Stadium will boast an 80,000 strong capacity for the London 2012 Games. Along with providing a breathtaking backdrop for the spectacular opening and closing ceremonies, the Stadium will stage the track and field events for both the Olympics and Paralympics.
Further to being a well-established landmark in the urban fabric of London’s East End, the Stadium will provide the appropriate backdrop for international athletic event bids, other sporting events and training, as well as a possible venue for concerts or hosting clubs and sporting bodies, such as the Rugby Football League and athletics clubs.
Beyond the 2012 Games, the Stadium will be scaled down to make way for a stunning new facility that, at its core, will champion athletics, as well as providing a sport-focused school for 14-19 year olds, a National Skills Academy and a base for the English Institute for Sport to provide athletes with the opportunity to receive superb training opportunities in areas such as coaching, physiotherapy and sports science. The Stadium will be accessible to the local community and will cater for all levels of athletics including schools and club use.
