The First Legacy Games: the physical and socio-economic transformation of East London
 

This lecture took place at the London School of Economics, where the Cities programme focus is on the relationship between physical structure and social structure in cities. The panel discussion centred around the physical and socio-economic strategies at the heart of the Strategic Regeneration Framework (SRF) and the physical development that is planned to take place after the Games.

Speakers for this event included:

Andrew Altman, Chief Executive of Olympic Park Legacy Company
Professor Ricky Burdett, 2012 Principal Design Advisor and Director of Urban Age at the LSE
Councillor Paul Brickell, Executive Member for Olympics and Public Affairs for Newham Council and Chief Executive of Leaside Regeneration
Roger Taylor, Director of the Host Boroughs Unit

The presentations were followed by audience participation with the director of the Cities Programme  - Fran Tonkiss - as chairperson opening the event.

Accompanying the public debate, in the foyer outside the theatre, there was an exhibition of maps and photographs by Juliet Davis, Cities Programme Tutorial Fellow. The exhibition documents former uses of the Olympic site and their relocations.
