Green Fair Festival

Date: 20 July 2008

Time: 12.00pm - 7.00pm

Location: Lloyd and Aveling Park

On Sunday 20 July our summer consultation roadshow took us to the Green Fair Festival in Waltham Forest where more than 300 people shared their thoughts on the post-Games Olympic Park site.

Participants at this event had a clear and united concern about the post-Games impact on the Olympic site and the surrounding area of open spaces and ecological conservation. This was the most important issue uncovered from the prioritisation excercise along with community sports facilities.

We took our Olympic Park masterplanning game to get people thinking about how they thought the Park should be laid out, with comments including:

  • "(Importance of) the layout and the planning for ensuring that the area is used after the games"

  • "I liked the possibilities, a great way to involve people"

We also wanted to know if people had any big ideas for the Park and here are a selection of comments received:

  • "Greening of East London area creating local environmental awareness for residents and increasing wildlife diversity by wetlands and other microclimate creation"

  • "Less taxes, more health service and public events"

  • "Re-open the rail connection between Walthamstow and Stratford so people in northern parts of LBWF can get to the site"

  • "We need a cinema in Walthamstow"

  • "Housing that local people will like, also create local industries"
