Legacy now public consultation event in Tottenham

Have your say

Creating a great place and achieving wider regeneration in East London will require the knowledge and creativity of local people and the private sector. We will need your input in our consultations to help develop the overall legacy design plans.

Consultation is the discussion that takes place between the organisers of any project and the people who need to have a say in that project, often known as stakeholders. A good consultation process offers people the chance to influence decisions and plans that will affect them.

Why is it important?

The London Development Agency wants all Londoners to have the opportunity to be involved in shaping a lasting legacy. A large number of people will play a part in the Games, but local people will be most affected by them and have the opportunity to benefit most from their legacy.

By listening to you, and learning from you, we can start to understand some of the critical issues you feel will affect the success of the long-term regeneration of the East London area.

The scale of this opportunity is unique. The huge investment and international profile achieved by the 2012 Games offers an amazing starting point for creating long-lasting, positive change. But this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and we need to get it right! To do this, a wide range of stakeholders need to be involved in the process and we welcome your input.

What consultation will there be about legacy?

As the legacy design plans are developed, we will be building relationships with stakeholders, listening to peoples hopes, concerns and ideas, and organising a wide variety of activities that will allow people to inform and shape the plans of the area after the Games.

Several major public consultation events are taking place during summer 2008 with the public encouraged to attend and contribute their views and ideas about what the legacy of the Games should be for London.

What will the format of the consultation be?

At our 2008 summer events, the public had the opportunity to build their own ‘Sim City’ through physically placing housing, parkland, shops and other features on a large scale map of the Olympic Park. Nearly 3,000 people had their say. A summary of the headline consultation results as well as the full report are available here.

We have just completed a series of community and stakeholder workshops which included a chance for attendees to visit the Olympic Park site.

There will be further opportunities until summer 2009 for people to get involved in shaping the legacy plans. Visit the events page for more details.

We welcome your feedback so please let us know if you have any comments or questions about the emerging legacy design plans.
