How the Olympic Park might look after the 2012 Games

The Emerging Plans and Programme

The legacy design plan will be developed in phases. The expected program timetable is shown below and the latest plans and designs will be posted on this website as they develop.

Phase one

The initial phase (February 2008) has focused on scoping and planning. In this period, detailed work plans have been developed and teams assembled and prepared for ongoing work.

Phase two

The aim of phase two (May-October 2008) was to learn in greater detail about the site and, with local people, create a vision for the area. Appropriate and challenging environmental standards were also set at this stage.

Phase three

The preferred option went out to consultation in early 2009 and the current plans can be viewed below.

Phase four

The Legacy Master Framework (LMF) is expected to be published by the end of 2009. As well as setting out exactly how a physical legacy for the Games will look, it will detail how it will create and maintain jobs, bring benefits to the local community and be sensitive to the environment.

Phase five

In 2010 the final Planning Application and Development Briefs are expected to be submitted to the Olympic Delivery Authority Planning Decisions Team. These are the formal documents which will then be approved or modified through discussion. The consultation which has been taking place throughout the process will underpin these plans.

Phase six

It is expected that planning permission will be approved by 2011, though work on creating a legacy will not stop there; for example, partners will be able to begin discussions with potential developers and investors in order to tap into their ideas and aspirations for the site.

After the 2012 Games, parts of the Olympic Park may be completed and reopened to the public after a short time. However, most development on the surrounding area will occur over a longer period, ensuring a responsive and lasting legacy.
